See that sexy thing over there? She probably has cankles, and most certainly has some cellulite. Almost 90% of women have experienced cellulite. Does that make you feel better?? That big, beefy guy… he will not have a single divot.
Let us give you the skinny on Cellulite.
Raise your hand if you have cottage cheese bum. Most women will describe it as rumply, dimply, bumpy hideousness and would give up their wine and first born to be rid of it.
Here is your anatomy 101 class: Cellulite is most common on buttocks, thighs, abdomen, upper arms and even breasts. Areas which have more deposits of subcutaneous fat. That wobbly stuff under the skin. It is harmless, but unsightly.
We are like an onion. We have lots of layers. These layers contain fibrous bands that tether the skin to the underlying muscle. Visualize a slab of steak with all those stringy, white things. Those are fibrous bands. These can be quite taut and rigid. The fat cells (subcutaneous fat) lie between the connected skin and muscle layers. As fat cells enlarge, they push up against the skin, while the long, stringy things pull down. This creates that orange peely looking skin called cellulite. We are born with a predetermined number of fat cells. We do not “grow” new fat cells, they just expand and contract with weight gain and loss.
This is because the fibrous bands in women are perpendicular, therefore letting the enlarged fat cells push up, creating rumpled skin. Men’s fibrous bands are cross hatched, creating more infrastructure, keeping the goo smooth and flat. Only about 10% of men have cellulite. It is so NOT FAIR!
In addition, age, hormonal factors, genetics which determine skin structure, skin texture and body type, weight and muscle tone can also affect whether you are blessed to have cellulite. Even very fit, slender people can have cellulite, like our sexy girl with the cankles.
You may have tried miracle creams to get rid of cellulite, maybe even spent a small fortune on cellulite reduction lotions that promised results over the years. Yeah, sorry, those are not going to work.
The only way to treat cellulite is to break down, or at least soften and lengthen, the fibrous bands underneath your skin, and shrink or destroy those fat cells. So, can we fix this dastardly situation?
Here at RestoBod Laser Clinics our Velashape cellulite reduction service does just that, improving the skin’s dimply texture through a series of non-invasive body contouring treatment sessions.
VelaShape is a trusted name in body contouring systems, with a proven track record for temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite and temporary reduction of thigh and abdominal circumferences. It is a certified FDA cleared treatment, and our Restobod technicians have years and years of experience using it to provide the best and most effective results.
VelaShape uses a combination of 4 technologies to treat cellulite and reduce those trouble spots.:
Cellulite is classified into four categories:
You always need to be realistic in what can be achieved. It would be a difficult-to-impossible task to take you from a Grade 3 up to a 0. But if you are prepared to put in the time and investment, we could improve your cellulite by 1–2 Grades.
Our cellulite reduction procedure is relatively painless. Our clients often describe it as the sensation of a deep tissue massage, and similarly you might have some slight bruising in the area afterwards. You may find sometimes your skin feels a bit hot, but because the handpiece is moving around the warm feeling is short-lived. You may feel a bit tender afterwards, so we suggest wearing comfortable clothes to your appointment.
We recommend 3-6 treatments done a week apart for best results.
The results are temporary since we are only shrinking the fat cells, and the effects of normal aging and loss of skin elasticity still occur. However, you should see results continuing for 12-24 months if you are maintaining a healthy lifestyle with no increased weight gain between appointments.

The skin around our armpits can change colour over time. This is called hyperpigmentation. Some people are born with it; others develop it later in life. There are several reasons why it happens.
